Product Queries

I'm pregnant, what products can I use?

The only products that we would not recommend would be the Bath & Shower Oils. This is simply due to the concentration of the essential oils. However please note that as each pregnancy is different, we advise you to seek advice from your medical team before use of any product.

Other than that, Aromatherapy Associates offers a range of products for the mother-to-be and the new mother. The Rose range are particularly recommended to nourish and protect the skin of the mother-to-be.  The roller balls and mists are great tools to boost your mood on the go. Our diffuser the Atomiser and Atomiser Connect for undiluted diffusion of our Pure Essential Oil Blends are perfect to scent your home for peace and tranquillity.

I have a nut allergy – are your products still suitable?

If you have a nut allergy it is recommended you avoid using the Revive Energising Exfoliator, Rose Pink Clay Mask, Rose Indulgent Body Cream and the Replenishing Hand & Body Lotion.

Please note:

Our Pro Barrier Boost Face Oil contains Marula Oil. There are no well-documented, specific health risks, however people allergic to nuts should be advised to be cautious using products containing Marula Oil. As always, it would be recommended to complete a patch test before use.

We have a sample size of the Pro Barrier Boost Face Oil here.

I am vegan – can you tell me if your products are still suitable for me to use?

All of our products are suitable for vegans.

I am coeliac – can you tell me if any of your products are not suitable for me to use?

We use Hydrolyzed Oat Protein, which is not gluten free, in the Replenishing Hand & Body Wash.

Why are your products so effective?

We create highly potent essential oils blends using the best possible ingredients. We choose our product bases wisely too, using vitamin and omega-rich plant oils such as Jojoba, Evening Primrose and Artic Strawberry Seed Oils and Shea and Murumuru Butters. These have a natural affinity with essential oils, allowing them work to their best potential.

Are your products natural?

Our main area of expertise is aromatherapy, so the aromas will always be natural. All our oils are all 100% natural including our Bath & Shower Oils, Body Oils, Pure Essential Oils and Face Oils. All our other products where possible are natural, however we do not compromise on quality, safety and efficacy. We use a limited number of naturally derived or synthetic preservative systems such as Phenoxyethanol where there are no alternatives. We are proud that our products are 100% free from synthetic fragrances, artificial colours, sulphates, parabens and mineral oils.

Are your products organic?

We always try to source the best possible essential oils and ingredients. So, while our oils are natural, they are not necessarily certified 100% organic because not every natural ingredient is certified organic. We also believe, in some cases, there are greater benefits from sourcing an ingredient from its natural environment rather than from an organic farm. For example, we like to source our lavender from the Alps rather than an organic farm in the UK.

Are your products tested on animals?

Aromatherapy Associates does not test on animals. We are proud to be Cruelty Free International Certified. For more information, please see our Cruelty Free International Page.

Do your products contain animal derivatives?

None of our products contain animal derivatives.

Do Aromatherapy Associates products contain preservatives?

We use a limited number of naturally derived or synthetic preservative systems such as Phenoxyethanol in our gels, lotions and creams. We will not compromise on product safety or stability and use this where no alternatives are suitable. We follow the latest research and development in this area and are constantly searching for effective, natural alternatives.

Do Aromatherapy Associates products contain alcohol?

In most of our products we use some Fatty Alcohols which are beneficial to the skin, examples include Cetyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Alcohol, Oleyl Alcohol and Stearyl Alcohol. They are not considered to be drying to the skin unlike Ethanol and other volatile alcohols. Denatured alcohol is occasionally used as a solvent when no alternatives are available, for example in our Deep Relax Sleep Mist.

Do Aromatherapy Associates products contain  Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS)/ Sodium LaurethSulfate (SLES)?

No, our products are SLS/ SLES free. We do however occasionally use milder sulfates to help maintain the efficacy of our products. For example, our Shower Oils contain MIPA LaurethSulfate, which has an "oilier" molecule and which is milder than SLS/ SLES.

How do I use your Bath & Shower Oil?

 1. Pour one capful of the Bath & Shower Oil.

2. Apply the capful of Bath & Shower Oil to your torso and lower back.

3. Cup your hands to your face and take a deep breath before stepping into a warm bath or shower. Cleanse as normal.

How do I know what products to use on my face/body?

A consultation with a therapist is the best way to find out what products are best for you. A consultation and ideally a treatment can be booked with one of our brand ambassadors in one of our many spa and retail partners near you.

From what age can your products be used from?

If you are under the age of 16 our products should be used under the supervision of an adult.

Can the products be used on sensitive skin?

If your skin is sensitive, we would recommend you patch test the products before applying to a larger area. The crease of the elbow is a good place for patch testing.

Can Bath & Shower Oils be left on the skin or used as facial products?

Bath & Shower Oils should not be used as facial products. They are highly concentrated treatments in a bottle and should be used as indicated on the back of pack.

What is the International federation of Aroma-therapists? (IFA)

The IFA, is a self-governing body that promotes the preservation of health by advancing the knowledge and practice of Aromatherapy via education, teaching and training. For over 30 years they have been safeguarding standards in the practice of Aromatherapy through their official Codes of Professional Practice and the formation of the Professional Aromatherapy Diploma syllabus in 1988. Their quality mark is recognised globally as professionalism and excellence within the field.

I had a potential skin reaction when using Aromatherapy Associates products, what steps should I take?
